A Son's Message to His
Mom
by Dulce Amor Niño Mother's
Day 2007
Some
eight years ago, Mommy, as we fondly call our grandmother, began
suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Now
86, Mommy could hardly remember anything nor recognize anyone except
our grandfather. She’s no longer mindful of what’s happening around
her, but somehow, she still manages to smile and hold one’s hand when
approached. In her heart, Mommy probably knows she will always be loved
and cherished.
A
framed, old letter in her room written to her by my Tito Dan about
twenty years back still catches my attention. It reads:
“Dear Mom,
You
are among the dearest treasures I can have in life. You put a gleam in
my eyes, a joy in my heart.
I
know you try your best to weave the loom of life that I can live by.
Many times, the threads do not seem to fall into place. They seem to be
tangled, but my heart is assured that you are trying to work out the
best design that you can.
Not
all designers in life are great and famous, some are weak, some meek,
some bold and some are strong. But I know in my heart, Mom, if you
could weave the loom of life perfectly and take all the tangles out,
and be the greatest designer of all, that this you would do.
Forget
it Mom, I love you!”
