Must-Visit Xmas Hangouts
November 2009

It’s this time of the year again! As early as the start of –ber months, most of us already began thinking about the coolest Christmas hangouts to visit with family and friends. Here are some of the spots within and close to the Metro to enjoy without shelling out a lot from our precious 13th month pay or hard-earned savings:

Paskuhan Village (Angeles City, San Fernando, Pampanga)

In Paskuhan Village (Christmas Village), it’s Christmas year round. That’s because features like giant lanterns and other Christmas symbols are exhibited there not just on the Holiday Season but for the entire year.

In 2003, it started featuring other things related to regional cultures present in the northern part of the country, with the Tourism Department turning it to HILAGA Philippines (Northern Philippines). It currently exhibits the crafts, traditional materials and other symbols promoting each region, as well as shopping stalls offering native products.

Policarpio Street (Mandaluyong City)

If you’re looking for a free but perfect venue for your Christmas photo-ops with the whole family, then Policarpio St. is just in the Metro. The neighbourhood’s tradition of extravagant display of Christmas decors, ranging from colourful lights to dancing Santa Claus structures, attracts both local visitors and foreign tourists.

The COD Christmas Show (Greenhills Shopping Center, San Juan City)

After the COD Department Store in Cubao ceased its tradition of putting up the famous COD Christmas Show every Holiday Season, Greenhills Shopping Center adopted the idea in 2005 and turned its previously advertisement-full façade into a venue for this wonderful show. Since then, Greenhills has continued the tradition of this automated mechanical show featuring moving robots on colourful background of Christmas lights, with different themes every year.

Christmas Bazaars

And of course, who would forget about Christmas bazaars? Everybody wants to avail of great shopping deals and these more locally known as “tiangges” are just the right places. There, we can find a good collection of products like apparels, accessories, home stuff, pastries, books, magazines, toys and other gift items --- you name it, they have it. Among the bazaars especially famous during the Holiday Season are the ones found in UP Diliman, Quezon City, in Riverbanks, Marikina and of course, the night market in Divisoria.
