Destination: Corregidor
by Ellen Joy Anastacio
August 2003

It's time for another virtual trip, this time to historical Corregidor! Corregidor, which is roughly 48 miles west of Metro Manila, is accessible by ferries from the Cultural Center of the Philippines complex. Take a look at some of the things we saw in the island!

On the way to the island, drink in the fabulous views of the sea..

..the turf..

outlying islands..

and the approach to Corregidor.

The Lighthouse.

Philippine Heroes Memorial

Battery Way was successful in fending off the Japanese attack.

Inside Battery Way.

Battery Way Ruins

Vintage cars used by President Quezon and General McArthur

The Filipino Woman

General Douglas McArthur

So if you want to take in a bit of history, Corregidor is just a boat ride away. A short day trip will give you the chance to experience this with the Light and Sound show at the Malinta tunnel, a tramvia ride that will show you the old barracks, large cannons, batteries, murals,  plus memorials to the Pacific heroes, Filipino-American heroes, the Japanese Garden of Peace, and a lot more.
