Don't cut your nails
at night, because somebody close to you will die soon.
This is one of the numerous Filipino superstitions
that have been passed on to generations by our beloved grandparents,
although not all them actually believed in this.
Anyhow, these superstitions are still amusing,
whether it be real or not. Enjoy reading some of the most popular
Pinoy superstitions in this lifetime.
- Dropping a fork will bring an unexpected male visitor, while
a spoon brings a female guest.
- Round food such as grapes, oranges and the like should be left
on your kitchen or dining table during New Year to ensure that
you and your family won't go hungry in the coming year.
- Don't sleep with wet hair, it will make you blind
- Kissing a sleeping baby's hand will put a curse on the baby
into being an overly sensitive adult who becomes offended easily.
- Don't give handkerchiefs as a gift, for it will make your recipient
cry in the future.
- When somebody in the family leaves the house while the rest
are eating, those dining should turn their plates around, clockwise,
to prevent any accident from happening to the departing family
member.
- Don't take pictures with only three people in the photo,
the one in the middle will die soon.
- Don't go to a wake with wounds, your wounds wont heal.
- Don't sweep at night, you'll sweep away good luck out of the house.
- Jumping up when midnight strikes on New Year's Eve will make you taller.
- Wear polka dots for more money, and put coins in your pocket during New Year's
Eve.
- Keep a newborn baby's umbilical cord for your children
to get along when they grow up.
- Taking a bath when you have your monthly period will make you crazy.
- A boy should not lie down on the lap of a menstruating girl, he will easily lose
his hair.
- A bride should not try out her wedding dress before
the wedding or it will not push through.
- Knives and other sharp objects are bad wedding gift ideas for this will lead to
a broken marriage.
- Rain during a wedding brings good luck to the couple.
- Rice confetti thrown at the newlyweds will bring the couple prosperity.
- The groom must arrive at the church before the bride to avoid bad luck.
- When dogs howl, it means they are seeing ghosts.
These are but a few of the oldest superstitions
ever told. Now it's up to you to decide whether to follow them or
